Secret Exits - New Super Luigi U Guide - IGN (2024)

No side-scrolling Mario game could be quite complete without devious Secret Exits(Red Flags) planted amidst the world. Every area boasts at least one, and some have several more. Unlock them, and you not only find your way to a Hidden Level, but even shortcuts that span between worlds will be yours. And if you are looking to find the elusive Star Road, you'll need every Star Coin from every Hidden Level.

There are 12 Secret Exits in New Super Luigi U. This page collects the Secret Exit locations along with a walkthrough and video for how to find each one.

Note that every Secret Exit in New Super Luigi U is located in the same level it was in New Super Mario Bros. U, as the shortcuts between worlds remain the same.

Right as you get to the platform with the 3rd Star Coin, ground pound the area with the sign to break into a hidden area. Follow the signs through the pipe to the Secret Exit!

Immediatley after the area with the three statues and the vine leading to the second Star Coin, there is a platform. Ground pound it to reveal a hidden pipe that will shoot you to the Secret Exit.

Before going up the pipe to the exit, look down below the arrow sign. Near the bottom of the level there is a small hidden alcove leading to the secret exit, just swim fast!

You'll have to get to the second Star Coin by jumping up after the first ring of Boos, then jump left and over the level and run across the top to a hidden area with a door. Go through the door to find the secret exit. This will also lead to the first Star Coin.

After the first Star Coin, one of the moving platforms will have a block at the very bottom. Quickly ground pound it before it goes into the goo. A switch will drop on the extending platform nearby. Once you hit it, a row of blocks will form below you above the goo, follow it to a hidden pipe that will lead to the Secret Exit.

By finding the Secret Exit you will also be able to obtain the last Star Coin. Using the Acorn Mushroom, run and jump and glide all the way past the door to the exit until you hit a door on the far right. Enter it to find the Secret Exit.

Before jumping to the goal post, look for a red pipe coming down from the top. Use the swaying blue pipe for a boost up to the red pipe, which leads to the Secret Exit.

At the beginning of the level, don't enter the pipe, instead investigate the statue on the far right. Eventually the statue will move, allowing access to a hidden area leading to the Secret Exit.

Near the end of the level, look for a platform with a giant Piranha Plant that rises high into the air. There is a? block nearby with an Acorn Mushroom, use it to jump up above the platform the Giant Piranha Plant is on and then boost up and to the left and into a secret area leading to the secret exit.

Climb the tower up until the point where you are faced with two giant Grrrols that destroy blocks as the fall down towards you. Climb up the remaning blocks to a pipe on the top left. Enter the secret area, and then ground pound the area below the Star Coin to find a pipe that will blast you into a new area leading to the secret exit.

After dropping down with the large square platform, Instead of heading into the door on the right, when the giant square block falls down, jump to the left instead of the right to find a small platform with a door leading to the Secret Exit.

When you reach an area with a single row of blocks at the top, wait for a fireball to clear some out, then use the blocks below to jump up on top, and move to the right of the structure to find a hidden pipe. Take it to find the Secret Exit.
